With the sudden thrive of new restaurants throughout the Croydon area it can be quite a daunting task to find the cut above the rest. This month while in South Croydon, I was introduced to the real taste of Italy in undoubtedly one of the strong competitors, Ferrari's Italian restaurant. The second you walk in you are greeted by the restaurant's exquisite modern interiors, complimented by its efficient, quality service with a smile. After my friend and I were sat down, we were quite impressed by the wide variety of lunchtime specials available. Starting with the Ferrari's pasta option which entails a selection of pastas such as the Lasagne Classica and the Taghliatelle Allo Scoglio but to name a few, accompanied by a drink all for just £7.95, a total saving of around £5.00. The second lunchtime offer is the option of two courses for £11.95 or a three-course meal at just £13.95 and all these specials run from Monday through to Thursday.
As Ruth and I settled in, we wasted no time as she ordered the Fagotino Fiorentina starter, (fillo pastry parcel filled with savoury goats cheese and spinach, oven baked and served with a tomato basil sauce with mixed leaves). I went for the Speck Con Rucola Pecorino (speck of ham and pecorino cheese shavings in a balsamic oil dressing). Both starters were a clear winner not only for their mind soothing taste but also for their stunning presentation. For our main course, Ruth chose the Penne Siciliana, sticking to her vegetarian ways (a penne with roasted aubergines) whilst I chose the Spalla D'Agnello (char-grilled rump of lamb, diced roast potatoes and spinach in rosemary red wine sauce). For all those meat eaters who like a bit of vino with their meal, a glass of house red is available at just £3.50, a bottle of Merlot Delle Venzie at £14.95 and Chianti Classico at £22.50. For all the white wine lovers like myself, a glass of house white is also £3.50, a glass of Pinot for £4.50 and a bottle of Vermentino Di Gallura priced at £21.50; a selection of champagne and spirits are also available plus a standard Ferrari's menu for those looking to eat outside the lunch time menu. So along with Ferrari's friendly environment, the delicious food and satisfactory well-rounded menu, whose ingredients hail direct from Italy, Ferrari's Italian is a must-go for a great day or night out.
